Appeals court refuses to stay marriage decision

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit today denied a request to delay implementation of its ruling striking down Virginia laws denying marriage to same-sex couples. The court’s action means that, unless the Supreme Court intervenes, couples may begin marrying and having their out-of-state marriages recognized in Virginia on August 18.

It’s a stretch to imagine the jury actually returning guilty verdicts against former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, on corruption charges involving loans and gifts that the McDonnells solicited from a Virginia businessman who has admitted that he saw his efforts to aid the First Couple as a way to boost his business fortunes.

Zelda Williams, the daughter of the late comic actor Robin Williams, who died this week by suicide, is deleting her Twitter and Instagram accounts, maybe forever, because of trolls who insisted on using those media to send her photos of a corpse from a Spanish morgue taken in 2012 and insisting it was her father.

The River City Radio Hour begins the new season in an open-air performance in downtown Waynesboro. The traditional August opener will be on the 500 block of West Main Street. With the Wayne Theatre as a backdrop, the Friday, August 22 at 7:00pm Radio Hour will again bring music, comedy and drama to its audience.
