Last January, when our documentary film, We’re Not Broke, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, we were elated. The film’s message about how multinational corporations are cheating the American people out of desperately needed tax revenue to the tune of $100 billion a year was sure to reach the masses.

Report: State posts 4.9 percent revenue increase in December

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced on Friday that total general fund revenue collections rose by 4.9 percent in December. The gains were primarily due to strong collections in corporate income tax payments. With the upward revision in December, total general fund revenues are now projected to grow by 3.6 percent in fiscal year 2013.

It is a common issue in Virginia and just about every other state: what to do to protect your farm from development or any other situation that would take it out of production. Sometimes this occurs because a farmer gets an offer he or she simply can’t refuse. Certainly no one would deny any farmer the right to make a nice profit, especially if it’s just before retirement. (Not that farmers every really retire.)
