FLW College Fishing is headed to Smith Mountain Lake May 3 for the first Northern Conference tournament of 2014. Fifty college teams will be competing for a top award of $2,000 and a berth in the Northern Conference Invitational tournament.

Danville’s job fair, sponsored by the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce, was an encouraging display, with 35 area employers advertising nearly 700 available positions.

The gray wolf is still considered “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). But a June 2013 proposal by the Obama administration to “delist” the animals—save for a small struggling population of Mexican gray wolves in Arizona and New Mexico—could change that if finalized later this year.

The VMI Keydets got the tying or go-ahead run to the plate four times in their last two at-bats, but the late rally fell short as VMI was edged by the Longwood Lancers, 6-4, in Big South baseball action Friday at Gray-Minor Stadium in Lexington, Va. The result evened the series at one game apiece.
