Emergency repair work on a washed-out portion of Route 39 (Maury River Road) in Rockbridge County began mid-day Saturday. Contractors will work around the clock, and hope to have the road back open on Thursday (June 26, 2014). All work is weather permitting.

Both southbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Shenandoah County are blocked due to a tractor trailer accident at exit 279 (Edinburg). The southbound side of the interstate is expect to be closed for at least two hours. There is currently a 10-mile backup.

Northbound traffic on I-81 in Shenandoah County is limited to the right lane due to a charter bus accident near mile marker 294 just south of Strasburg. It is expected to take at least two hours to remove the wrecked vehicle and reopen the left lane.

Both southbound lanes of Interstate 81 have reopened in Augusta County. Shortly after 3 p.m., Virginia State Police led traffic on a “slow roll” from exit 220, where vehicles had been detoured since this morning’s tractor trailer accident.
