Virginia State Police answering thousands of calls due to snow

From 4 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 12) through 4 p.m. Thursday (Feb.13), Virginia State Police state police emergency dispatch centers fielded 4,052 calls for service. During that same 12-hour period, state troopers responded to 1,095 traffic crashes and 1,115 disabled vehicles across the Commonwealth.

Surprise snow: Whose fault is it when response is slow?

The Shenandoah Valley was surprised by a snowstorm that wasn’t forecast until it was already under way. It shouldn’t be a surprise, then, that local authorities were slow to respond when the flakes did start to fall, and why a relatively small storm – leaving at most a couple of inches of snow on the ground in most locations – ended up being such an issue.
