Virginia joins multi-state coalition supporting economic, environmental and health benefits of clean air

Attorney General Mark Herring announced today that Virginia will join a coalition of seventeen other states and seven major municipalities taking legal action to support the Clean Power Plan, a national pollution-reduction strategy that will combat the impact of climate change on Virginia’s economy, coastal communities, the military, agriculture and forestry industry, and the health of Virginians.

There is no pipeline: Schools are prisons

We are told there is a pipeline in the United States that travels from our school system to our criminal justice system. Correct as the data corroborating the pipeline’s existence may be, it is a flawed way of conceptualizing the issue. There is no pipeline out of schools and into prisons, because schools and prisons in this country are not conceptually separable.

House leaders encouraged voters in Northern Virginia to reject the Governor’s plan to add $17 tolls on I-66 and criticized the Governor’s divisive, Washington-style campaign.

Church spearheads effort to open new Verona Community Center

The Verona community has never had its own community center. That is about to change thanks to an effort spearheaded by Verona United Methodist Church. If all goes according to the church’s vision, an 8,200-square-foot former grocery store on Rt. 11 in Verona will be converted to a community center providing space for community and area church activities.
