House Education Committee puts focus on student-centered policies

Steven Landes, R-Weyers Cave, today convened the second annual House Education Committee Summit, where members of the Virginia House of Delegates will focus on issues that will help ensure the Commonwealth has a strong public education system that produces quality, high-skilled, and well-educated students capable of succeeding in tomorrow’s economy.

UVA is 19th most militarized university in the U.S.

According to a new analysis by Vice News, the University of Virginia is the 19th most militarized university in the United States. Vice News lists the top 100 in order, based on “the greatest number of students who are employed by the Intelligence Community (IC), have the closest relationships with the national security state, and profit the most from American war-waging.”

Governor McAuliffe issues gag order to state agencies on natural gas pipelines

On Tuesday, The Roanoke Times reported that the decision to share pipeline comments with the governor’s office before making them public was one outcome of an Oct. 28 meeting in Richmond that included representatives from 13 state agencies involved in the permitting process or mitigation efforts for the proposed pipelines. The Times reported the purpose of coordinating with the Governor’s office was to “ensure that state agencies will speak about the pipeline projects in the same way.”
