Gov. Bob McDonnell has announced Strategic Compensation Grants totaling $4.5 million to provide performance and incentive payments of up to $5,000 for teachers in 13 school divisions who meet goals related to student achievement, professional growth and leadership.

Talk about taking your business to “The Cloud.” In an ingenious effort to avoid billions of dollars in taxes, Apple, Inc., has been levitating subsidiaries between American and Irish soil, claiming that from a tax-law perspective, they exist in neither country and so are subject to neither country’s taxing authority. And, sadly, the scheme has worked: no taxes have been paid to the U.S., a relatively paltry sum was paid to Ireland.

WTA’s Gateway has arranged for the return of The Richmond Comedians on Saturday, January 26. In celebration of their return the cover charge will be $5 instead of the usual $10. The performance will be emceed by Michal Ketner with Corey Marshall and David Wingfield. The performance begins at 8 pm at 329 West Main in downtown Waynesboro.

Gov. Bob McDonnell’s biennial budget amendments will include an additional $4.9 million to support localities in covering the costs of teachers, teacher’s aides and staff for blind or visually impaired students as recommended by the Virginia Board of Education.
