Mathers Construction is in the spirit of giving and has joined the Valley Businesses Give Back effort to raise money and gather donated food for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. In 2012, the collaborative collected 23,465 pounds of food and more than $4,000 for the Food Bank.

Following an extensive national search, Bridgewater College has selected Dr. Maureen Silva to join the College as vice president for institutional advancement. Silva, who comes to Bridgewater with a broad background in higher education development and fundraising, will begin on Feb. 1, 2014.

President Barack Obama defended the rollout of the Affordable Care Act at an event in Boston on Wednesday with Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick. Massachusetts has a similar state health-care system as what is being implemented at the federal level. Former Massachusetts Gov.
