The United States Postal Service announced plans today to transition to a new delivery schedule during the week of Aug. 5, 2013 that includes package delivery Monday through Saturday, and mail delivery Monday through Friday. The Postal Service expects to generate cost savings of approximately $2 billion annually, once the plan is fully implemented.

It was resolution time Monday night on the floor of the Virginia House of Delegates, and the Republican-majority chamber was in a conspiracy-theory-validating mood. The House voted to support a resolution to fund a $17,440 study of an alternative currency in the event of a breakdown in the Federal Reserve system and a second measure prohibiting any local government in Virginia from implementing the non-binding Agenda 21 initiative aimed at promoting sustainable development.

Novak Porter was a freshman at Fishburne Military School in search of a winter sport. He tried basketball, but decided quickly that wasn’t for him. Then he ran into the man known around campus as Coach C. “I said, Coach C, tell me about wrestling. He said, Porter, I’ll tell you right now. It’s a sport that will kick your butt,” said Porter, now a senior and four-year member of the FMS wrestling program. It’s with that sales pitch, repeated over and over, that Coach C, aka Rich Chiarolanzio, has turned the Fishburne program into one of the top wrestling programs in the state of Virginia.

The James Madison women’s basketball team rallied from 15 points down to win 68-63 at William and Mary in Colonial Athletic Association action Sunday afternoon at William and Mary Hall. The Dukes upped their overall record to 14-7 and its CAA mark to 8-1 as the Dukes maintained sole possession of second place in the league standings. JMU posted its 11th victory in its last 12 games.

Waynesboro Senior Center Yard Sale Committee volunteers have been working really hard in the last couple weeks. They had been hosting a monthly yard sale at the Center as a fundraiser for us. But we had to cancel the yard sales for the last four months due to our construction project. They are going to resume with a Yard Sale next week on Thursday (February 7) from 10a.m. – 1p.m. For the last two weeks the committee has been hard at work, cleaning, reorganizing, and pricing all the new donations. Our sales are always open to the public and the best way to say thank you to this group is to have a large number of shoppers attend the sale. Please come out to see what treasures we have!
