Sophomore guard Ron Curry (Pennsauken, N.J./Paul VI) poured in 19 points as JMU held off Hampton in the final minutes for a 55-49 victory on Saturday afternoon in the Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic in the Richmond Coliseum. JMU won for the second time in three games to improve to 4-9 overall while HU dropped to 5-7. JMU also improved to 4-1 in the all-time series.

The Virginia men’s soccer team moved onto the NCAA College Cup with a 2-1 victory over ConnecticutFriday evening on a wet, chilly evening at Klöckner Stadium. The eighth-seeded Cavaliers (13-5-5) got goals from Ryan Zinkhan and Jordan Allen as well as stout defense to move on to the 11th College Cup in program history.

Through Jan. 4, donations of canned goods will reduce overdue fines at Augusta County Library, Staunton Public Library and Waynesboro Public Library. Known as “Can Your Fines,” this annual event encourages the return of overdue library materials while also helping those in need in our community.
