U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine released the following statement applauding the announcement that the Secretary of the Navy has approved a plan to relocate the Military Sealift Command’s (MSC) headquarters to Norfolk, Va., from its current location at the Washington Navy Yard in D.C. The transition will be complete by 2019.
“This is terrific news for Norfolk and the Navy. This move will bring new opportunities to Norfolk, home to the greatest naval concentration in the world. With the Fleet Forces Command headquarters in Norfolk, this consolidation will streamline their fleet management processes, maximize fleet support, and cut overall costs. Military Sealift Command plays a critical role in providing logistics support for the entire military, and we look forward to welcoming them to the Commonwealth,” the Senators said.
MSC is the leading provider of ocean transportation for the Navy and the entire Department of Defense – operating approximately 110 ships daily around the globe.
