The Waynesboro Police Department has busted up a copper theft ring involving several adults and juveniles that stole nearly $20,000 in copper wire and other metals between March and April of this year.

From 4 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 12) through 4 p.m. Thursday (Feb.13), Virginia State Police state police emergency dispatch centers fielded 4,052 calls for service. During that same 12-hour period, state troopers responded to 1,095 traffic crashes and 1,115 disabled vehicles across the Commonwealth.

In a win for Virginia’s taxpayers, today the United States Supreme Court handed down a unanimous ruling that upholds the constitutionality of Virginia’s citizenship limitation in its Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), which allows only residents of the commonwealth and news organizations that serve Virginians to utilize FOIA.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit today ruled that Ophelia De’lonta stated a “plausible” claim that the Virginia Department of Corrections violated her constitutional rights when it refused to have her evaluated for sex reassignment surgery. The ruling allows Ms. De’lonta’s case to move forward in the lower court.

Gov. Bob McDonnell’s comprehensive, long term transportation funding proposal, “Virginia’s Road to the Future,” would provide the Virginia Department of Transportation with approximately $1.28 billion in new state funding that could be used for 158 highway projects providing a significant investment in improving interstate pavement, secondary system bridges, mass-transit, unpaved roads and other high priority projects.
