Harrisonburg gears up for Bike Month in May

As the Bike Capital of Virginia, Harrisonburg is paving the way for an unforgettable celebration of National Bike Month in May. Through Bike Month, New Community Project’s Northend Greenway, the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC), and the City of Harrisonburg are encouraging community members of all age levels to bike more often, noting it’s a greener, healthier, and less expensive form of transportation.

Harrisonburg Startup Weekend to be held this weekend

The Harrisonburg Startup Weekend is scheduled to open this Friday evening at Showker Hall on the JMU campus. This event is being organized by a coalition of local organizations interested in fostering the entrepreneurial spirit in the Harrisonburg region. The event runs from Friday evening to Sunday evening when a panel of judges will select one team as the winner for their idea, presentation and feasibility.

Harrisonburg-Rockingham bicycle, pedestrian plan to identify improvements for region

Bicyclists and pedestrians in the Harrisonburg-Rockingham area can look forward to safer and more convenient places to walk and ride in coming years, thanks to a new Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan being developed by the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Metropolitan Planning Organization (HRMPO) and planners at the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission (CSPDC).

Rocktown Divas puts focus on Downtown Harrisonburg

Twelve area schools will join others from around the world Oct. 1-5 to celebrate International Walk to School Week. Students from Waterman, Keister, Spotswood, Stone Spring, Cub Run, Ottobine, South River, John C. Myers and Pleasant Valley Elementary Schools; Thomas Harrison and Skyline Middle Schools; and Turner Ashby High School will be walking and rolling to school during the first week of October
