UVa. is 14-5 overall, 4-2 in the ACC, owns a win on the road at Wisconsin, and as such would seem to have a decent NCAA Tournament resume. Except that the Cavs also lost at home to Delaware and lost to Old Dominion on a neutral court, a loss that gets worse by the day as the Monarchs are now a woeful 2-17 overall and 0-7 in the CAA. So tonight’s game against N.C. State becomes as much a must-win game as you will see in late January.

UVa. and Oregon will meet in football for a two-game series in 2013 and 2016, the schools jointly announced today. The teams are scheduled to meet Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, in Charlottesville and during the 2016 season in Eugene at Autzen Stadium. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.

The only thing predictable about a “short” session is that the days will be full and pass by quickly. We are more than a third of the way through the 46 day session and had real fireworks this past week. On Monday, the nation celebrated Martin Luther King Day and the second inauguration of President Barack Obama. Nevertheless, since the Virginia Constitution calls for the General Assembly to be in session, we were hard at work considering bills and resolutions. All legislation has importance to someone, but overshadowing those bills was a tactic involving redistricting that was sprung on the Senate at the close of business on Monday afternoon.
