Beginning Monday, Aug. 11, Route 747 (Preddy Creek Road) in Albemarle County will be closed to through traffic so the Virginia Department of Transportation can replace two pipes that carry storm water underneath the road.

Survey, geology, and environmental crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation will soon begin working in several areas along Route 29 north of Charlottesville as preliminary engineering work begins on the Route 29 corridor improvement projects that were approved by the Commonwealth Transportation Board in its annual update of the Six-Year Improvement Program.

The speed limit on a 12-mile section of Interstate 64 in western Albemarle County will increase from 65 to 70 miles per hour on Thursday, Dec. 19. The new speed zone will run from just east of the Greenwood Station Road overpass (Route 690) at milepost 106.1 to just west of the Route 29 interchange at milepost 117.7.
