Washington & Lee University, on Sunday, will host the 13th annual Souper Bowl, a fundraiser for Campus Kitchen at W&L’s Backpack Program, which delivers 850 backpacks each week to preschoolers, elementary school students and middle school students in the Lexington-Rockbridge County area.

The Souper Bowl event will take place beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday in Evans Hall on the W&L campus.

Tickets are available in advance or at the door and can be purchased online at colonnadeconnections.wlu.edu/donate/campus-kitchen.

The cost is $10 for students and children and $15 for adults.

“The Campus Kitchen Souper Bowl is a highlight of the winter, and between the delicious soups donated by local businesses and organizations, performances by W&L students, and the chance for the campus and local communities to come together for a meaningful cause, it’s hard to choose a favorite part of the event,” Campus Kitchen at W&L coordinator Ryan Brink said.

This year’s Souper Bowl participants include Bistro on Main, Campus Kitchen, CHEFS Catering Company, Full Circle Catering, Globowl Café, Hardens, Heliotrope Brewery, Legendary Eats, the Lexington Farmers Market, Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, Pronto, Pure Eats, the Rockbridge Jewish Community, Season’s Yield Bakery and Café, Sweet Treats Bakery, The Georges, the Family Nutrition Program at Virginia Cooperative Extension and W&L Dining Services.

Since 2009, the CKWL Backpack Program has provided non-perishable breakfast, lunch and snack items to children receiving free and reduced lunch in schools throughout Lexington and Rockbridge County.

“We at Campus Kitchen are incredibly grateful for the continued support we receive from folks and organizations throughout the community. Thank you to everyone who has supported us in the past as we work to address the meal gap experienced by our local students,” Brink said.
