MUCH ADO ABOUT … HOUSES? McCain owns at least one

“I’ll have my staff get to you,” John McCain told an interviewer when asked how many homes he owns.

I know a lot of to-do has been made about this. Methinks it might be too much. I mean, if it’s four, seven, whatever, the point isn’t how many, it’s how in touch he is with how many ever it is. Right?

And don’t try to spin this as him not having any idea how much pain those of us who only own one (or rent or lease) are going through in this tough economy. People who wear $500 shoes have their own struggles to endure.

WE WANT BARR! WE WANT BARR! Voters want Libertarian in debates

That’s what Zogby says, though this is the Zogby poll conducted on Aug.12-14 that has Barack Obama leading John McCain 43 percent to 40 percent in a four-way race including Bob Barr (at 6 percent) and Ralph Nader (at 2 percent). Not the one conducted Aug. 14-16 that has McCain leading Obama 44 percent to 39 percent, with Barr at 3 percent and Nader at 2 percent.

That first poll had 55 percent of voters nationwide saying that they want Barr, a former Republican congressman running on the Libertarian ticket, in the presidential debates this fall, with 46 percent saying they also want Nader in the debates.

Me, I’d like to see Zogby debate himself over how those two polls conducted days apart could have such a divergence in what they have to say about the general election. But they didn’t call me, so …

BEFORE YOU GET ALL UPSET … They tried

News Virginian reporter Bob Stuart called me yesterday to try to get a lead on a local Dem who might be heading out to the Democratic National Convention next week that might be interested in authoring a daily blog on the NV website from the convention floor. The only local Dem that I know is heading out to Denver, Augusta County Democrat Barbara Lee, is already committed to doing a blog for the News Leader.

So the news that the NV has SWACGirl (aka Lynn Mitchell) blogging from the Republican National Convention in Minnesota is not more proof that the paper is biased against progressives. The editorial page so obviously is, of course, but give credit where credit is due. They tried.
