wm-logoA number of preseason prognostications have high views of the William and Mary men’s basketball team for the 2014-15 season. Both Blue Ribbon and NYBuckets.com rated the Tribe No. 1 in the Colonial Athletic Associatino (CAA) prior to the year, while senior guard Marcus Thornton and sophomore Omar Prewitt have been recognized by a number of publications. Here is a look at how a number of publications and Web sites view the Green and Gold for 2014-15:

Blue Ribbon
Blue Ribbon picked the Tribe as the preseason favorite in the CAA. Both Thornton and Prewitt were on the five-player All-CAA First Team from the publications forecast, and Thornton was the CAA’s Preseason Player of the Year.

Lindy’s Sports Annual
Lindy’s Sports Annual projected W&M second in the Colonial behind only Northeastern. The publication also selected Thornton among its five-member all-league first team and as the conference’s preseason player of the year. As part of the Lindy’s CAA honor roll, Thornton was listed as the league’s best shooter, its most versatile player and the best NBA prospect in the CAA.

Sporting News
Sporting News rated W&M second in the league behind Northeastern. The publication listed Thornton as the league’s top player and on the five-player All-CAA team.

Athlon Sports
Athlon Sports listed the Tribe at No. 3 in the CAA with Northeastern at the top followed by Hofstra. Thornton was picked as both the preseason player of the year and a First Team All-CAA choice. As part of its analysis of W&M, the publication called Thornton and Prewitt, “arguably the league’s best backcourt.”

College Sports Madness
Both Prewitt and Thornton were recognized by the Web site College Sports Madness. Thornton was both the CAA Player of the Year and an All-CAA First Team choice, while Prewitt garnered Third Team All-CAA accolades. Thornton also received Third Team All-High Major All-America Team honors from the Web site. It lists the following conferences among its High Major programs: A-10, CAA, C-USA, Horizon League, Mid-American, Missouri Valley, Mountain West and the West Coast Conference.

NYCBuckets.com
The Web site Big Apple Buckets projected the Tribe as the top team in the CAA during its preseason rankings. Thornton was also on the site’s All-CAA First Team. NYCBuckets.com mainly covers teams and leagues in the Northeast with NYC ties, including the CAA, NEC, MAAC, Big East, Ivy League, Patriot League and America East.

The Tribe will host an open instrasquad scrimmage for fans at 11:30 a.m. as part of Homecoming at Kaplan Arena on Saturday, Oct. 18. W&M kicks off the 2014-15 campaign at Florida on Friday, Nov. 14.
