Wieters walkoff lifts Baltimore to Opening Day win

baltimore oriolesA Matt Wieters RBI single sent the Baltimore Orioles to a 3-2 walkoff win over the Minnesota Twins on Opening Day Monday.

Chris Davis started the ninth-inning rally with a two-out walk. Mark Trumbo singled for his fourth hit of the day to advance Davis to third.

Wieters took the first pitch he saw from Kevin Jepsen (0-1) to center to plate Davis with the winning run.

Zach Britton (1-0) picked up the win with a scoreless inning of relief.

O’s starter Chris Tillman was lifted after two innings as the game was delayed twice, for a total of nearly three hours, by rain.

UVA alum Tyler Wilson pitched three scoreless innings of relief for Baltimore.
