Waynesboro tops New Market, forces deciding Game 3

Chris Graham

wlogo2A four-run first put Waynesboro on top, and Generals starting pitcher Tyler Fox limited New Market to two hits in seven innings, as Waynesboro topped New Market, 12-3, on Friday, forcing a deciding Game 3 Saturday night in New Market.

Fox (freshman, Nebraska-Omaha) was masterful, striking out seven, walking three and allowing two runs on a second-inning homer by Landon Prentiss.

The righthander threw strikes on 60 of his 96 pitches on the night.

Nine Generals had at least one base hit in the game, with JoJo Woods (junior, Central Florida), Anthony Iacomini (junior, Cortland State), Quinn Griffith (junior, Salisbury) and Brian Beard (freshman, Old Dominion) each collecting two hits.

Waynesboro will send its ace, Corey Armentrout (sophomore, Bridgewater), to the mound against New Market ace Aaron Cressley in Saturday’s Game 3.

The winner of that game will face the winner of the Strasburg-Aldie series for the Valley League championship.
