The Shenandoah Valley Art Center in Waynesboro is looking for the public to step in and help after a devastating flood just before Thanksgiving.

A gofundme has been set up for the center after a plumbing failure sent water pouring through the main gallery at 416 W. Main St.

“By a true miracle, no artwork was damaged, and for that we are deeply grateful,” said Piper Groves, SVAC executive director. “Unfortunately, our floors and building structure were not as lucky. The repairs will be extensive, costly and time-consuming.”

In the fundraiser, Groves said that SVAC does have insurance and is hopeful that the damage will be covered. However, she said, the impact on day-to-day operations and programming will extend for several months.

“With limited programming during repairs, our ability to stay financially afloat is at real risk.”

Groves is hoping the community will financially support the organization at this crucial time.

“Your support will provide critical interim funds that allow us to keep our doors open, support our staff and continue serving as a creative hub for the Shenandoah Valley while we rebuild,” Groves said.

Donations are tax deductible. To date, nearly $3,000 has been raised; the goal is $5,000.
