Waynesboro man held in domestic assault

policecar3The Waynesboro Police Department has arrested a Waynesboro man on a couple of charges after a night of alcohol-fueled violence that led to the assault of his girlfriend and significant damage to their apartment.

Officers arrested Brian Douglas Meeks, 21, on felony strangulation and misdemeanor domestic assault.  At approximately 9:40 p.m.on Monday, officers responded to Quadrangle Apartments on Fourth Street for a report of a domestic disturbance.  When they arrived, they found the 25-year-old victim with an injury to her mouth and several red marks around her neck.  They also found hundreds of dollars of damage to the apartment’s bathroom and furnishings.

The victim told officers that Meeks had grabbed her by the neck several times choking her so that she could not breathe.  He also hit her several times and pulled her hair.  He then turned ripped the bathroom sink out of the wall and smashed the mirror.  Also incurring Meeks’ wrath were a bedroom dresser and some living room furniture.

He is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
