Jim Wood, the former vice mayor of Waynesboro, known for his “Pete Buttplug” slur of former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, doesn’t think the Northrop Grumman pollution issue is that big a deal.
One reason: I mean, there’s an interstate “going right by there.”
In addition to I-64, Wood also offered as an excuse, in an interview with the News Leader for a story published today about his candidacy for re-election to Waynesboro City Council, that “there are factories right here in our area that have permits for 100 tons,” which, if true, would be four times the hazardous air pollutants Northrup Grumman wants to pump into our atmosphere.

Wood told the Leader that he wasn’t “trying to throw anybody under the bus” there by naming names, but, I will.
It will be Wood who figuratively gets run over by the bus here.
According to the DEQ, there aren’t any active state operating permits, the name for what Northrop Grumman is requesting from DEQ to be able to pollute our air, in Waynesboro, Staunton or Augusta County.
There is one federal hazardous air pollution permit on file for a location in Augusta County – for the regional landfill out in Jolivue.
But anyway, there are other places that pollute, and then there’s the interstate.
There’s a family of skunks in my neighborhood that don’t have a permit, either, for that matter.
Until DEQ gets the people driving to and from Charlottesville every day, and that family of skunks, to apply for a DEQ permit, the Murica-hatin’ liberals need to find something else to complain about, amirite, Jimmy?
