generals-new logo2Clayton Taylor hit the 12th pitch of a seventh-inning at bat into the trees in right-center for a go-ahead homer, and the Waynesboro Generals held on for a 6-5 win over the Charlottesville Tom Sox Wednesday night.

The teams traded runs early, with the Sox scoring single runs in each of the first four innings, Waynesboro scoring one each in the first and second and two in the fourth, on a sacrifice fly by Michael Brosseau and an RBI single by Imani Willis.

An Austin Hale RBI single in the fifth gave Waynesboro a 5-4 lead, but Charlottesville tied the game in the next half-inning on a Cole Murphy RBI groundout.

Taylor fell behind 0-2 to Tom Sox pitcher Matthew Eagle (0-2) before working to a full count, fouling off six two-strike pitches, then blasting the final 3-2 fastball into the night for his first homer of the season.

Jordan Harmon (1-0) got the win in relief for Waynesboro, giving up a run on two hits in two innings. Starter William Montgomerie gave up four runs, two earned, on six hits in five innings, striking out six and walking three.

Frankie Romano worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth to record his first save.
