Waynesboro Cultural Commission presents Writers’ Workshops

waynesboro2editsThe Waynesboro Cultural Commission announces its 2013 Writers’ series, an annual  schedule of workshops designed to allow area writers to explore different literary genres. In response to great public interest, all the workshops will include two sessions in order to present more information to writers who attend. Writers of every level are invited to the workshops, and all are presented free of charge as a service to Waynesboro’s writers.

The series kicks off with an introduction to screenwriting in March, continues with an introduction to romance writing in April, and closes with an introduction to the personal essay in May.

Screenwriting basics will be taught by Zan Gillies, a freelance filmmaker, videographer and editor. He has a BA in Film Studies from the College of William and Mary and has been featured as a guest reviewer on the Scriptshadow screenplay review blog. He has been a finalist and semi-finalist in various screenwriting contests, including The Writer’s Store’s Industry Insider Competition. At last year’s Richmond 48 Hour Film Project, his team’s film won “Best In Show.” Zan lives in Waynesboro.

The screenwriting workshops will be Wednesday March 13 and Monday March 25, from 7 to 9 pm. Although everyone is encouraged to attend both sessions, each will have valuable information for the beginning screenwriter. The size of the class will determine the location, so registration is required. Call the Wayne Theatre Alliance Office at 540-943-9999.
