The human remains found in a fire in Waynesboro on Bookerdale Road before Christmas have now been identified.

Abraham Hernandez Sanchez, 47, of Waynesboro, has been identified as the deceased person found at the scene. It is still unknown if Sanchez died as a result of the fire or by another cause.

There still have been very few details released related to the Dec. 20 fire. Police and the Waynesboro Fire Department responded to the structure fire at 5:39 a.m.

The exact address has not been released though it took place in the 200 block of Bookerdale Road. The area is a mix of single-family homes and apartments.

The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation, according to a statement from the Waynesboro Police Department.
