vmiVMI alumnae Kristen Whitehurst and Amy Horney have made the U.S. Women’s Armed Forces Soccer Team. The two former Keydets and their teammates will begin play Friday.

Whitehurst and Horney are two of the 18 athletes, representing the U.S. Army, Air Force, Marines and Navy, who made the squad.

“Our program is so proud of Kristen and Amy,” said VMI head coach Chris Bergmann. “To have the opportunity to not only serve their country, but play for their country on a national team level, is outstanding. It is a great honor and something for future Keydets to aspire to. Kristen and Amy went through a three-cut tryout process and were selected for this honor, and we are all excited to watch them and their teammates over the next few days.”

Matches in the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) World Military Women’s Football Championship begin June 22 and continue through July 3. The tournament is held in Fort Bliss, Texas. For more information, please visit armedforces.defense.gov/sports/soccer.
