VMI travels to Ohio U. for CIT quarterfinals

vmi_logoThe VMI basketball team will be heading for Athens, Ohio to take on the Bobcats of Ohio University for the quarterfinals of the 2014 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. The Wednesday night game will tip off at 7 p.m. in the Bobcats’ 13,080-seat Convocation Center.

VMI (21-12) advanced to the quarterfinals after another 100-point effort, topping Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne 106-95 Saturday afternoon. The Keydets were led by 41 points from senior guard D.J. Covington, a CIT single-game record. The Keydets are averaging 108.5 points per game in the CIT, including a 111-100 win over Canisius College in the first round.

Ticket prices for the game have been set by Ohio at $10 for all seating. Fans can purchase tickets online or by calling 1-800-575-2287. The Ohio ticket office will be open at 8:30 a.m.

The two teams have met just once, with the Bobcats winning the Feb. 1, 1972 game 98-60 in Athens.The Keydets are 1-0 against Ohio-based schools this season, topping Wright State University 94-74 in Lexington on Dec. 7.
