VMI guard Q.J. Peterson named Preseason All-SoCon

vmiVMI senior guard Q.J. Peterson (Hedgesville, W.Va.) was named to the 10-member 2016-17 preseason All-Southern Conference squad as announced today by the league office in Spartanburg, S.C.

Peterson, who led the Southern Conference in scoring in 2015-16 with a 19.8 points per game average and ranked among the nation’s leaders in free throw percentage with a 90.5% mark, is a repeat selection to the 10-man All-SoCon preseason team as voted by the league coaches.

Peterson scored a school record 46 points vs. Mercer last year and also ranked second in the conference in 3-pointers per game (2.8) while leading the team in rebounding (6.3) which ranked 8th in the SoCon. Peterson had 14 games of 20+ points and three 30+ games in 2015-16 and earned SoCon Player of the Month honors for November. He scored in double figures in all but three games during the season.

Peterson was named to the 2015-16 All-SoCon Coaches and First Team (Media) squads and was named to the First Team All-State men’s team as selected by the Virginia Sports Information Directors.

VMI opens the 2016-17 campaign on November 11 at Richmond. Tipoff for the opener at Robins Center will be 7 p.m.
