A single-engine plane taking a short flight from Richmond International Airport to Tri-Cities Executive/Dinwiddie County Airport south of Petersburg crashed in a wooded area near Interstate 85 at the 62.4-mile marker on Monday evening.

The pilot and passenger, both 21-year-old males, were transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Virginia State Police reported.

The two airports are 32.7 miles apart, according to Google Maps.

An investigator with the Federal Aviation Administration is responding.

The crash remains under investigation.
