Updated: Virginia State Police investigating fatal crash on Blue Ridge Parkway

policeVirginia State Police Trooper T.M. Skehan is investigating a fatal crash in Nelson County on the Blue Ridge Parkway approximately 5.4 miles south of Route 814.

The crash occurred Saturday (June 30) at 4 p.m.

A 2005 Toyota 4Runner that was traveling along the Blue Ridge Parkway when it first ran off the right side of the highway. The vehicle swerved back to the left, crossed over the highway, ran off the left side of the road and struck several trees.

The driver, Reid D. Ostrander, 65, of Fancy Gap, Va., died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.
