Chris Graham

policecar3Virginia State Police Trooper G.D. McCoy is still investigating the cause of a crash that occurred Friday night (Feb. 28) in Augusta County. The crash happened at 9:35 p.m. on Route 778/Knightly Mill Road, less than a mile south of Route 777.

A 2000 Ford  Expedition was traveling south on Route 778 when it ran off the right side of the road and struck the guardrail. The impact of the crash caused the Expedition to go over the guardrail and strike a tree. The driver, Douglas J. Kelly, 47, of Ft. Defiance, Va., was flown to UVA Hospital for treatment of serious, life-threatening injuries.

Kelly was not wearing a seat belt. He was the vehicle’s only occupant.
