The newest K-9 officer on the Virginia Division of Capitol Police team has already gone above and beyond, with a stint as explosive detection canine.

Titan, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois-Shepherd mix, begins training today with Sean Chaulkin, a trainer with the Capitol Police.

Upon completing his training, Titan, already a certified good boy, will join Kayce, a Belgian Malinois, as the second active member of the K-9 Unit.

Titan will work with officer Michael Light, a six-year veteran of the Capitol Police who was named to the K-9 Unit in April.

“Police K-9 handlers and their K-9 partners play an essential role in creating a safe and secure environment for our visitors, stakeholders, and elected officials here at the Capitol and the surrounding area,” said Col. John T. McKee, chief of the Capitol Police. “I am excited to welcome Titan and look forward to him serving with the division. He seems very eager to get to work and exemplify our core values of devotion, character and professionalism.”
