uva-logo-new2Virginia rebounded from a road loss at George Washington on Monday to win the Charleston Classic, but the Cavs still dropped six spots in both the AP and coaches polls released on Monday.

UVA (4-1) is now ranked 12th in both polls.

The ‘Hoos lost 73-68 at George Washington (4-0) on Nov. 16, then swept its three-game run in Charleston, defeating Bradley, Long Beach State and George Mason to claim the tournament championship Sunday night.

Two other ACC teams at the top of the preseason polls also suffered defeats last week. Preseason #1 North Carolina, after a 71-67 loss at Northern Iowa on Saturday, fell to eighth in the coaches poll and ninth in the AP poll.

Duke, preseason #4 in the coaches poll and #6 in the AP poll, lost to new #1 Kentucky 74-63 last Tuesday, but the Blue Devils defeated unranked VCU 79-71 on Friday and then defeated unranked Georgetown 86-84 on Sunday, actually gained a spot to #3 in the coaches poll and held steady in the AP poll at sixth.
