A Virginia-based credit card skimming operation was shut down after a Romanian citizen was arrested in Richmond.
Florin Doroiman was taken into custody without incident, according to the Lynchburg Police Department.
The coordinated law-enforcement effort began after Lynchburg Police responded to a skimmer device found on a checkout terminal on Feb. 26 at a Walmart on Wards Road.
Police were able to obtain footage of the skimmer and capture a clear image of Doroiman. Footage also captured the make, model and color of his vehicle.
This information was quickly shared with area law enforcement agencies.
Similar skimming devices had been discovered by authorities in surrounding jurisdictions including Bedford.
The Central Virginia loss prevention task force, a collaboration of local loss prevention professionals and law enforcement officials, played a key role in the investigation.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation with additional charges pending, police said.
Lynchburg Police encourage businesses to routinely check their payment terminals and report any suspicious devices or activity to police.
Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact Officer Payne at (434) 221-2321 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 798-5900.
