Virginia alum Joe Harris set for surgery, likely out for the season

AFP

joe harrisSecond-year Cleveland Cavaliers guard Joe Harris will undergo surgery on his right foot next week and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

According to an ESPN report, Harris, 24, a 2014 Virginia graduate, has been experiencing pain in his right foot since the start of the NBA season.

His agent tells ESPN that it has been discovered that Harris has an extra bone in his right foot that is causing irritation. The plan with the surgery is to remove the bone, with a recovery time of two to three months.

Because Harris is not a rotation player, the Cavs are not likely to push Harris to return this season.

Harris has played a total of 15 minutes in five games with Cleveland this season. He saw action in 10 games with Canton, the Cavaliers’ affiliate in the NBA Developmental League, and averaged 16.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, shooting 39 percent from the field and 32 percent from three-point range.
