VDOT: Road construction, maintenance schedule for the week of Jan. 19-23

VDOT has updated its list of scheduled road construction and maintenance projects in Augusta County, Rockbridge County and Rockingham County for the coming week.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. When traveling through a work zone, use extreme caution and be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

Augusta County


Interstate 64 

  • *NEW* Mile marker 89 to 99, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures including along Exit 91 and Exit 99 off-ramps for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Interstate 81 

  • Mile marker 221 to 227, northbound and southbound – Single-lane traffic on exit 221 southbound ramp to I-64 eastbound Jan. 5 – March 30. Shoulder closures northbound and southbound 24/7 through spring. Traffic restrictions are for I-81 widening project. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 229 to 228, southbound – Right shoulder closures for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • *UPDATE* Mile marker 234 to 237, northbound and southbound – Overnight right lane closure southbound for pothole repair, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Tuesday night. Northbound and southbound left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes. Estimated completion June.

Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway) – Single lane closures between Route 1035 (Meadow Lane) and Route 925 (James Crawford Lane) for utility work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Feb. 3.

Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway) – Shoulder closures near Rockbridge County line for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 252 (Middlebrook Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 659 (Sugar Loaf Road) and Route 693 (Stingy Hollow Road) for fiber installation, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. January 19 to February 27.

Route 254 (Hermitage Road) – Flagger traffic control at intersections with Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) and Route 792 (Indian Mound Road/Balsley Road) for intersection improvements, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through May.

Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road, Verona) – Occasional flagger traffic control and westbound turn-lane closures at Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway) for intersection improvements, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays through August.

Route 636 (Old Goose Creek Road) – Flagger traffic control near Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) intersection for pipe installation, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Jan. 30.

Route 834 (Hickory Hill Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 631 (Ladd Road) and Route 640 (Goose Creek Road) for waterline installation, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through April.

Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway, Verona) – Occasional flagger traffic control near Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road) for intersection and roadway improvements, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays through August.

Various roads – Mobile traffic control for mowing operations. Flagger traffic control for drainage work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 to 3 p.m. weekdays.

Rockbridge County


Interstate 64 

  • *NEW* Mile marker 57 to 48, westbound – Right shoulder closures for ditch cleaning operations, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 20 – 30.

*NEW* Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Northbound and southbound shoulder closures between Route 710 (Strerrett Road) and Route 714 (Mackeys Lane/Ridge View Lane) for brush removal, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Northbound right shoulder closures for sign work near Augusta County line, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Route 11 (Lee Highway) – Southbound right shoulder closures for sign work near Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway) intersection, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 39 (Maury River Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 750 (Alphin Lane/Gallery Lane) and Route 252 (Brownsburg Turnpike) for brush removal, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Route 42 (Virginia Avenue, Goshen) – Shoulder closures for sign work near Route 615 (Wilhelm Road) intersection, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

  • *NEW* Mile marker 240 to 241, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures for inspection of Route 257 overpass bridge, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday night.
  • Mile marker 242 to 248, northbound and southbound – Single lane closures 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge and interchange projectwith completion expected in fall.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 245 to 251, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures including along Exit 245, Exit 247A and Exit 251 off-ramps for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 247 to 248, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures for inspection of Reservoir Street overpass bridge, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday night.

*NEW* Route 33 (Spottswood Trail) – Eastbound right shoulder closures near Route 9372 (McGaheysville Elementary School) intersection for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Westbound right shoulder closures near Skyline Drive interchange for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Route 33 (East Market Street, Harrisonburg) – Single-lane closures as needed between Hawkins Street and University Boulevard. Shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for bridge replacements and interchange improvements with expected completion in September.

*NEW* Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Eastbound right shoulder closures near Router 280 (Stone Spring Road) intersection for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Route 256 (Third Street, Grottoes) – Shoulder closures near Route 987 (Dogwood Avenue) intersection for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 259 (Mayland Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 830 (Mauzy Lane/Bevans Lane) and Route 946 (Zirkle Lane) for fiber installation, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday.

*NEW* Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Northbound right shoulder closures near Route 649 (Berrytown Road/Island Ford Road) intersection for foundation installation, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Route 340 (Augusta Avenue, Grottoes) – Shoulder closures near Route 256 (Third Street) intersection for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
