VDOT Lynchburg District Traffic Alerts: June 20-24

road work transportationHighway work in the VDOT Lynchburg District requiring road/lane./structure closures is scheduled, weather permitting.  Traffic may be restricted.  Items in italics contain new/updated information. For     up-to-date information, call 511 or visit www.511Virginia.org.  

Amherst County:  

Route 29, 29 Business, 60, 130, 151 and 210 – Paint marking may result in delays. Use caution.

Route 29 & Route 29 Business-Lane closure during sign inspections on 7/19-20.

Route 29 Business – Work by signal crew may result in delays.

Route 130 over Pedlar River– Bridge work; traffic control in use. Est. comp. 11/27/17.

Route 163 from John Lynch Bridge to Route 29 Business, Madison Heights area–  Surface treatment work will take place. July 5-12, 8 pm to 6 am, traffic control devices, pilot vehicles and flaggers will assist traffic.

Route 501/130 (Snowden, Hunting Club Rd-existing James River Bridge) –Starting June 6, Route 130 between Route 501/130 intersection east to Bedford Power Plant will be restricted to one lane using traffic control devices, signs and signal for roadway construction and bridge approaches. Completion 4/21/17.   

Route 636 over Harris Creek (T. 643-638) – Road closed 7/5-8/5for culvert replacement. Detour will use Rt. 655 and 643.

 

Appomattox County:  

Routes 26 & 131  – Sign work may result in delays for motorists. Use caution.

Route 627 over Suanee Creek (633-601) – Road closed beginning 6/20 for deck replacement. A detour will be in place using Rt. 601, 620,619 and 633.

Various– Plant mix work will take place. Traffic control devices, pilot vehicles and flaggers will assist traffic. Expect delays.

 

Buckingham County:    

Route 20 over Slate River – Speed reduced during bridge replacement. Est.  comp. – 12/2017.

Route 610 (Rt 729-676) over Green Creek – Closed 7/18-10/7 for superstructure replacement. Detour via 676, 622 and 729.

Various – Crews will work surfaces, mow and respond to customer concerns. Plant mix work will take place. Traffic control devices, pilot vehicles and flaggers will assist traffic. Expect delays.

 

Campbell County:  

Route 29 North (Rt 1602-863), 29 South (Rt 685 intersection) – 6/ 12 – 6/ 26, milling and paving operation 8 pm to 6 am. Traffic control devices, flaggers and Virginia State Police will assist.

Route 29 North & 29 North Business – Lane closure for sign inspection on 7/19

US 460 East over Norfolk-Southern Railroad – Lane closures bet. 9 am & 3 pm for bridge inspection on June 22-23, weather permitting.

Various routes– Surface treatment will take place. Traffic control devices, pilot vehicles and flaggers will assist traffic. Expect delays.

 

Charlotte County:   

Route 40 over Louse Creek – Be alert to equipment entering/exiting road during bridge project.

Route 672, Phenix AHQ – Crews will perform ditch work.

Craftons Gate AHQ– Crews will boom axe.

Phenix AHQ – Crews will make shoulder repairs.

Various – Crews will work surfaces, mow and respond to customer concerns.

 

Cumberland County:  

Various – Crews will work surfaces, mow and respond to customer concerns.

 

Halifax County:  

Route 360 and other locations – Crews will mow at various locations.

Route 501 @ Rt. 40 and 632 – Construction of right turn lanes. Est. comp. May 2017.

Route 613 over Branch of Banister River (360-360)– Road will be closed 6/13 – 9/23 for structure replacement. Detour will use Route 360.

Route 716 over Banister River – Road closed to construct bridge and approaches.

Bethel AHQ – Crews will repair sidewalks in Town of Halifax. 

Various –Crews will make surface repairs and respond to customer requests.

 

Lynchburg:

Route 29/460 Corridor eastbound/westbound from Concord Turnpike to Candlers Mtn Rd:  Speed reduced to 45 mph for construction throughout the corridor.

Route 29/460 (501-29)– Construction traffic entering/exiting roadway. Weather permitting, lane closures will be in place on Saturdays until further notice. Use caution. Est. comp. 11/16/17

Route 29/460 (Odd Fellows Rd Int. and Odd Fellows Rd.)– Be alert to construction traffic entering/exiting roadway. Use caution. Est. comp. 8/3/18

Route 460, vicinity of LU campus – July – Oct. 2016, LU/English Const. bridge project. Temporary barriers set in July.

 

Nelson County:  

Route 29 – Paint marking may result in delays. Use caution.

Route 56 over Black Creek – Bridge inspection on 8/16 may result in delays.

Route 56 over Tye River – Bridge inspection on 9/12 may result in delays.

Route 623 over Rockfish River – Bridge inspection on 9/12 may result in delays. Rain date 9/13.

Route 645 over Beaver Creek– Bridge inspection on 8/16 may result in delays. Rain date 8/17.

Route 672 (673-724) – Road closed due to flooding damage.  Est. reopening – mid-Aug. 2016.

 

Pittsylvania County:  

Route 29 S over Norfolk-Southern RR –Bridge replacement. Rt. 29/803 connection temp. relocated. Southbound traffic detoured to northbound lane. Est. comp. 6/20/17.

Routes 29 & 58 (Brosville AHQ) and other locations – Mowing will take place.

Route 685 over Stinking Creek (40-670) – Road closed for approx.. 14 weeks beginning 5/9/16 for bridge replacement. Detour will use Rt. 670, 630 and 40.

Route 719 over Fall Creek (Rt. 744, Crane Rd – 744, Mt. Hermon Cir.) – Road closed 7/18-8/5 during bridge deck replacement. Detour will be via 863, 864 and 41).

Route 755, Gretna area – Crews will work on Rural Rustic project.

Route 792 (Rt 671 – 665) over Stinking Creek – Closed 8/15-9/9 for culvert replacement. Detour via 671, 670 and 665.

Route 792 (Rt 671 – 665) over W.F. Stinking Creek – Closed 9/12-10/7 for culvert replacement. Detour via 671, 670 and 665.

Route 834 (Rt 703-837) over Pudding Creek – Closed 8/8-9/30 for superstructure replacement. Detour via 703, 838 and 718.

Route 968 over Sandy Creek (726-970) – Road closed 5/23 – 8/12 for structure replacement. A detour will be in place using Rt. 726, 58, and 970 back to 968.

Brosville and Rondo AHQ – Crews will ditch. 

Brosville, Rondo and Mt. Airy AHQ  – Crews will work surfaces.

Kentuck AHQ  – Crews will boom axe. 

Mt. Airy AHQ – Crews will trim limbs around signs. 

Rondo AHQ – Crews will clean debris and pipes. 

Various –Crews will work surfaces and respond to customers.

 

Prince Edward County:  

Routes 15 & 133  – Sign work may result in delays for motorists. Use caution.

Route 602 over Little Saylers Creek (460-617) –Closed beginning 6/6/16 for timber deck replacement. Detour via 617 to 602.

Route 619 over Saylers Creek – Crews will construct bridge and approaches. Comp.  11/2016. Road closed; detour in place.

Route 632 over Bush River (633-630) –Closed for structure replacement. Detour via Routes 633, 15, 647and 630.

Route 633 over Norfolk-Southern Railroad-Bridge repairs; lane width 13’ with 1-way traffic using a temporary signal. Work will take approximately 3 months to complete.

Various – Crews will work surfaces, cut brush, perform drainage/pipe maintenance, add shoulder stone, mow and respond to customer concerns.

 

District-wide activities: 

Bridge maintenance – Bridge washing operations will result in lane closures on various bridges.

Guardrail maintenance – Crews will do guardrail maintenance. 

Pavement markings –Pavement markings will be eradicated in anticipation of paving. Caution is urged.
