VDOT: Local road work, maintenance scheduled for the week of Feb. 23-27

VDOT has sent out its updated road work and maintenance schedule for the week of Feb. 23-27.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. When traveling through a work zone, use extreme caution and be alert for lane closures and traffic-pattern changes.

Augusta County


Interstate 64

  • *NEW* Mile marker 90 to 87, westbound – Overnight single lane closures for overhead sign inspections, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday night.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 92 to 98, eastbound – Overnight single lane or shoulder closures for overhead sign inspections, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday night.

Interstate 81 

  • *NEW* Mile marker 210 to 216, northbound – Right shoulder closures including along Exit 213 off-ramp for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Mile marker 219 to 227, northbound and southbound – Single-lane traffic on exit 221 southbound ramp to I-64 eastbound through March 30. Shoulder closures northbound and southbound 24/7 through spring. Traffic restrictions are for I-81 widening project. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 222 to 223, northbound – Overnight single lane closures for overhead sign inspections, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday night.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 225 to 222, southbound – Overnight single lane closures for overhead sign inspections, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday night.
  • *NEW* Mile marker 230 to 231, northbound – Right shoulder closures for overhead sign inspections, 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday night.
  • Mile marker 234 to 238, northbound and southbound –Northbound and southbound left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing laneswith estimated completion of late 2027.

*NEW* Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Overnight shoulder closures between Waynesboro eastern city limits and I-64 Afton interchange for overhead sign inspections, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday night.

Route 252 (Middlebrook Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 659 (Sugar Loaf Road) and Route 693 (Stingy Hollow Road) for fiber installation, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Feb. 27.

*UPDATE* Route 254 (Hermitage Road) – Pilot truck and flagger traffic control at intersections with Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) and Waynesboro city limits for intersection improvements, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through June 5.

*NEW* Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) – Northbound overnight right shoulder closures between Route 631 (Ladd Road) and Waynesboro southern city limits for overhead sign inspections, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday night.

*NEW* Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road, Verona) – Westbound right shoulder closures between Route 792 (Indian Mound Road/Riverside Avenue) and Route 1921 (Adams Lane) for fiber installation, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road, Verona) – Occasional flagger traffic control and westbound turn-lane closures at Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway) for intersection improvements, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays through August 1.

*NEW* Route 624 (Mount Torrey Road) – Overnight shoulder closures between Route 1607 (Inch Run Lane) and Waynesboro southern city limits for overhead sign inspections, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday night.

Route 834 (Hickory Hill Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 631 (Ladd Road) and Route 640 (Goose Creek Road) for waterline installation, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through April 30.

Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway, Verona) – Occasional flagger traffic control near Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road) for intersection and roadway improvements, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays through August 1.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for drainage work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 to 3 p.m. weekdays.

Rockbridge County


Interstate 81

  • *NEW* Exits 180, 188A/B and 205, northbound – Right shoulder closures along off-ramps for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 39 (Maury River Road) – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting between Route 622 (Alone Mill Road/Reid Road) and Route 252 (Brownsburg Turnpike), 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.  

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

Rockingham County


Interstate 81

  • Mile marker 237 to 238, northbound and southbound – Left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing laneswith estimated completion of late 2027.
  • Mile marker 242 to 248, northbound and southbound – Exit 247 off-ramps (except northbound 247A) closed from 7 a.m. Monday through 4 p.m. Friday (Feb. 16-20) for pouring concrete on new Route 33 bridge over railway. Follow posted detours. Single lane closures as needed 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge and interchange projectwith completion expected in fall 2026.

Route 33 (East Market Street, Harrisonburg) – Follow posted detour. Single-lane closures as needed between Hawkins Street and University Boulevard. Shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for bridge replacements and interchange improvements with expected completion in September.

Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Eastbound right shoulder closures near Route 726 (Stone Spring Road) intersection for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) and Route 689 (Shen Lake Drive) for rock and soil testing, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.

*NEW* Route 280 (Stone Spring Road) – Overnight flagger traffic control between Harrisonburg city limits and Route 253 (Port Republic Road) for signal installation, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday nights.

*UPDATE* Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Northbound right shoulder closures near Route 649 (Island Ford Road/Berrytown Road) intersection for signal pole installations, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through March 6.

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
