VCU got 29 points from grad student guard Max Shulga in an 89-54 smackdown of Georgia Southern on Wednesday at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.

Shulga buried 7-of-10 attempts from the field, including 6-of-8 from beyond the three-point arc, on the way to the 12th 20-point game of his collegiate career

Grad student guard Phillip Russell poured in 17 points and shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line for the Black and Gold (7-2).

Redshirt sophomore guard Fats Billups III provided a spark off the bench with 14 points and six rebounds for the Rams. He knocked down 4-of-5 attempts from long range.

Georgia Southern (5-4) was led by Eugene Brown III, who totaled 13 points.

The Rams led 39-31 at the half, and opened the second half on a 12-1 run sparked by a Joe Bamisile 3-point jumper.

VCU pulled away with defense, limiting the Eagles to 20 percent (6-of-30) shooting in the period, including 3-of-11 from three-point range.
