Valley Career & Technical Center, Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School hosting open house

Valley Career & Technical Center and Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School is hosting an Open House for prospective students, their families, prospective employers, educators, business, industry and leaders in the Augusta County, Highland County, Staunton and Waynesboro communities scheduled for Monday, Nov. 3, from 3-7 p.m.

The event will be an opportunity for students to learn about programs offered, meet staff and discover the academic and technical programs that define student experiences at VCTC and SVGS.

Business/industry representatives, educators, local leaders and our communities are invited to see our labs/shops/classrooms, connect with our teachers, and network with each other.

“Our open house is the best way for students and our communities to understand how we prepare the next generation of skilled professionals,” said Lee Ann Whitesell, the director of the Shenandoah Valley Center for Advanced Learning. “We are thrilled to welcome future students to explore how our programs can help them achieve their personal and professional goals.  We are excited to welcome our communities to see how we cultivate our area’s traditionally strong work ethic while integrating the newest technology and professional trends.”

Valley Career & Technical Center is one of seven regional centers in Virginia providing technical education and career preparation to meet the needs of today’s high school students and adults through intensive training, apprenticeships, adult night classes, GED classes, dual-enrollment coursework, and work-based learning.

High school students may enroll in programs in the following broad career areas: Agriculture, Hospitality, Mechanics and Transportation, Construction, Manufacturing, Health Sciences, Education, Human Services and Public Safety.

Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School is one of 19 regional governor’s schools in Virginia, with programs and courses designed to meet the needs of gifted and highly motivated students. SVGS provides a unique environment in which individuals explore the interconnections between technology and mathematics and sciences or the arts and humanities.
