uva wrestlingThe UVA wrestling program announced its 2018-19 schedule on Thursday (Sept. 13). The schedule features eight dual meets against teams that finished the 2017-18 season ranked among the top 25.

Virginia will host a total of eight dual meets across seven dates, while traveling for four road duals. The Cavaliers will also compete dual meets at the Journeymen Duals, the South Beach Duals and the Virginia Duals which are all neutral-site events.

“We have once again put together an extremely tough schedule for our team,” said Virginia head coach Steve Garland. “Whether by the dual meets we have scattered throughout the season or the tournaments we compete in, our guys are going to get the opportunity to face elite competition throughout the course of the entire year.

“The thing I am most excited about is how many home contests we have this year. My staff and I work very hard to build a home schedule and we are pretty pumped up about the teams we have coming to Charlottesville. We can’t wait for the UVA faithful to come out and support our guys.”

Virginia kicks things off at home with the Cavalier Duals (Nov. 3) against Indiana and Midlands University. The rest of the home schedule features duals with Central Michigan (Dec. 7), Princeton (Dec. 8), Ohio (Jan. 20), NC State (Feb. 1), Duke (Feb. 9) and Pittsburgh (Feb. 22).

The Cavaliers will travel for road duals at Missouri (Dec. 20) in Kansas City, Mo., at VMI (Jan. 18), at North Carolina (Jan. 26) and at Virginia Tech the weekend of Feb. 15-17. The date of the dual with the Hokies has yet to be determined.

Virginia will also compete in neutral site duals at the Journeymen Duals (Nov. 10), the South Beach Duals (Dec. 28-30) and the Virginia Duals (Jan. 11-12).

At the Journeymen Duals, the Cavaliers will face Nebraska, Wyoming and Ithaca College. In competition at the South Beach Duals, Virginia will face Lehigh, Southern Illinois, Utah Valley and West Virginia. Opponents for the Virginia Duals have not been announced.

The Cavaliers will also compete at the Cliff Keen Invitational (Nov. 30 – Dec. 1) in Las Vegas.

The ACC Championships (March 9) will be hosted by Virginia Tech, while the NCAA Championships (Mar. 21-23) will be held in Pittsburgh.
