uva soccerTwo members of the UVA women’s soccer team were selected in the first round of Friday’s National Women’s Soccer League Draft at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) was selected by the Houston Dash with the first overall pick, while Danielle Colaprico (Freehold, N.J.) was selected ninth overall by the Chicago Red Stars.

Brian, who last week became just the fourth woman to repeat as the recipient of the MAC Hermann Trophy, was a three-time NSCAA First-Team All-American at Virginia. With 41 career goals and 43 career assists, she is the first Cavalier to be a member of the 40-40 club. A four-time first-team All-ACC selection, she ranks second in school history with 125 career points. Brian has made 19 appearances for the United States Women’s National Team, scoring three goals, and was the only collegiate player on the team during last year’s CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying Tournament.

Colaprico, a 2014 NSCAA Second-Team All-American, leaves Virginia as the school’s career leader in assists (44) and appearances (100). She posted a school-record 19 assists and a career-high six goals this season as she was named ACC Midfielder of the Year. Also a standout in the classroom, she was named a First-Team NSCAA Scholar All-American in 2014. Colaprico is currently a member of the United States U-23 National Team.

Last year Virginia had nine alumni playing in the NWSL, including Becky Sauerbrunn (Class of 2007) and Nikki (Krzysik) Phillips (Class of 2008), who won the 2014 championship with FC Kansas City.
