UVA to host Maryland in Super Regional beginning Friday

Chris Graham

CWSThe UVA baseball team will play host to Maryland Friday through Sunday (June 5-7) in the 2015 NCAA Charlottesville Super Regional at Davenport Field. Game times and television networks for the best-of-three series will be announced Tuesday morning by the NCAA.

WINA 1070-AM will carry the local radio broadcast for all games of the super regional, while select stations along the Virginia Sports Radio Network also will have coverage.

The Davenport Field gates will open one hour prior to game time every day.

Virginia (37-22) is hosting a super regional for the fifth time, with each coming in the last six years (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015). Champions of the NCAA Lake Elsinore Regional, Virginia advanced to a super regional for the sixth time in the last seven seasons; UVa and Florida State are the only schools to play in six of the last seven super regionals.

Making its second straight NCAA Super Regional appearance, Maryland (42-22) won the NCAA Los Angeles Regional, knocking out No. 1 national seed UCLA. The Terrapins made their super regional debut in 2014 in Charlottesville, where UVa took two of three games from Maryland.

The winner of the super regional will advance to the College World Series at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb. UVa has made three CWS appearances (2009, 2011, 2014).
