Olympic silver medalist Katie Grimes, the top-rated recruit in the Class of 2024, has signed with the UVA Swimming program, coach Todd DeSorbo announced on Monday.

Grimes was the youngest member of the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team, placing fourth in the 800 Free at 15 years old. After winning the 400 IM at the U.S. Olympic Trials in June, she earned a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, also competing in the 1500 Free (10th place).

The Las Vegas native is a three-time World Long Course Championships silver medalist, placing second in the 1500m Free and the 400 IM in Budapest, Hungary, in 2022 and repeating silver in the 400 IM in 2023 in Fukuoka, Japan. She set a World Junior Record in the 1500 Free (SCM) at the 2022 FINA Swimming World Cup.

Grimes was the first American woman to compete in both pool and open water swimming at the same Olympic games, swimming in the 10km race in the Seine (15th place). She is a three-time national champion in the 10km open water race and a bronze medalist at the 2023 World Championships.

As a club swimmer at Sandpipers of Nevada, she posted top times for the Class of 2024 in six different events: 200 Free, 500 Free, 1000 Free, 1650 Free, 200 Fly and 400 IM.
