UVa.’s Anthony Poindexter, Vincent Brown headed to UConn.

New Connecticut football coach Bob Diaco, a former assistant at Virginia, is taking two of his former colleagues at UVa. with him to Storrs.

A report in the Hartford Courant has Diaco hiring UVa. assistants Anthony Poindexter and Vincent Brown to his staff. Poindexter will serve as the defensive coordinator. Brown will coach on defense as well in a still-undefined role.

Diaco coached at UVa. under Al Groh from 2006-2008.

Another former UVa. assistant, Wayne Lineburg, most recently at Richmond, will coach on offense and special teams.

Both Lineburg and Poindexter played at and have degrees from UVa. Lineburg was a backup quarterback on three bowl teams in the 1990s, and Poindexter was an All-American at safety whose #3 was retired by the school in 2009.
