Cornerback Ja’Son Prevard, a solid contributor in the Virginia defensive secondary, has entered the transfer portal, and we can only see this one as a blow to the UVA Football program for 2026.
Prevard, a junior, was on the field for 585 snaps, compiling 24 tackles, five pass breakups, three INTs, and a 40.0 NFL passer rating against, limiting opponents to 18 receptions on 33 targets for 240 yards, with no TD passes surrendered.
I wonder if it has to do with his benching for the first half of the 27-7 win over Virginia Tech.
Prevard did get on the field in the second half of the Nov. 29 regular-season finale, but just for nine snaps.
He also saw rather limited action in the ACC Championship Game, getting 33 snaps in the 27-20 OT loss to Duke – he’d averaged 49.4 snaps per game in the first 11, with a season-high 83 in the 46-38 double-OT win over Florida State, which he sealed with an INT in the end zone on the game’s final play.
Prevard got a 71.1 season grade from Pro Football Focus, and I would imagine that he will make himself some money on the portal with what he was able to do this season in the ACC.
Prevard had spent his first two years at the college level at Morgan State, an FCS school.
Other other portal entry to report on: Tyshawn Wyatt, a fifth-year offensive lineman who only got on the field in three games, for a total of 28 snaps – all in garbage time in the blowout wins over Coastal Carolina, William & Mary and Stanford.
Wyatt’s college career started way back in 2020 at JMU, where he played four seasons – he would get the 2020 year as a redshirt, and would be a redshirt candidate for 2025, since he only played in three games.
Wyatt missed the entirety of the 2024 season at JMU with an injury.
Both Prevard and Wyatt are listed as three-star portal recruits by On3.
