UVA Football: Good question from reader on the status of the O line

An alert UVA Football fan wrote me tonight to ask about the health of the O line, making the point that the bulk of the media attention on the ‘Hoos this week has been on the health of QB Chandler Morris, and whoever ends up getting the snaps at QB on Saturday at Duke “are only as good as their blockers.”

Chastened, I did some quick research.

  • Kevin Wigenton is still listed on the availability report as “out” – he’s been out since the Washington State game. Not expected back until (maybe) Virginia Tech in the Nov. 29 regular-season finale.
  • Ben York is listed as “questionable.” He hasn’t gotten a ton of snaps, but it helps having him for depth.
  • Drake Metcalf is listed as “probable.” He’ll play.

The other four starters (Brady Wilson, Noah Josey, Jack Witmer, McKale Boley) are all good to go.

With Metcalf, we have the starting lineup intact.

We also have Ethan Sipe (114 snaps this year) and Noah Hartsoe (50 snaps) this year as backups.

It would be nice to also have York(167 snaps), just in case.

I think we’ll be fine there.
