We expected UVA Football coach Tony Elliott to have to account for between 12-15 guys leaving his program via the transfer portal.

The transfer portal only formally opened on Monday, and already, 13 guys from the 2024 roster with eligibility remaining have put their names in.

Three are seniors or grad students from the offensive line room with eligibility – Ty Furnish, Ugonna Nnanna and Charlie Patterson.

Two are seniors from the D line room with a year of eligibility – Bryce Carter, a former four-star recruit, and Michael Diatta.

Furnish, Nnanna and Carter entered the portal on Monday, along with one other name you may recognize, junior wideout JR Wilson.

The total of five seniors and grad students come from among the 43 seniors and grad students on the 2024 roster.

We’re still trying to get a handle on how many new guys Elliott will need to get from the portal to flesh out his 2025 roster.

The uncertainty comes with medical redshirts and lingering redshirt years from 2022 among the seniors/grads group.
